GPS Module Can Be Utilized Even in Low Signal Strength

London, UK – QinetiQ has developed a low signal strength GPS module, which is called LSS for short. It is being said that almost towards the end of 2003, this facility will be in operation and available to the relevant customers as well as the development partners.

The module makes satellite tracking possible in an extremely low signal environment, producing powerful positioning solutions within buildings, under very dense foliage, and in urban canyons.

The LSS GPS module stands right at the central position of QinetiQ’s enhancement of the positioning integration foundation.

Ian Pirie, who is the GPS Telematics director at QinetiQ, claimed that QinetiQ is prominently placed right ahead of the relevant market with its more than 100 GPS experts and its dedicated research and development experience of 20 years.

This technology is designed with the aim of being used in newer customer applications, for example improved and enhanced customer services by utilizing the dispatch system in practice. This dispatch system, within the industry called the taxi industry, employs GPS information to automatically and quickly assign the task to the nearest cab or vehicle as soon as a customer makes a request for such a facility.

This technology can also be utilized to assist ambulances and other such service fleets in order to take the shortest route between the two given locations. In this way, on one hand the services are bound to improve, and on the other hand the fuel costs will naturally come down.
